Summary:  A roadmap for navigating Google's newest search engine update.

Last week, Google announced a new initiative that allows the, to update their search results more quickly than ever before.  This makes it even more critical for website owners to keep their content fresh and up to date.  This update was announced on the official Google Blog.

Hoskins outlines some key steps to making sure your website is kept up to date for these new changes.  I feel this list is an excellent check list not just for Google Fresh, but for keeping your website updated for organic search results in general:

  1. Create blogs and forums [and an regularly updated news section]
  2. Create active online communities
  3. Create a current site map
  4. Create regular press releases
  5. Send news stories to Google-recommended news sites [an excellent suggestion I will give from now on!]
  6. Give Google What Google Wants: Keep Adding Fresh Content to Your Website

I can't agree more with this list.  It is absolutely essential to keep a website fresh and up to date.  And as Google evolves, they stress that same thing, both by how they update their search algorithms and by flat-out telling the public that's what they should doing.

At Alternative Marketing Connections, every single site we build is designed to be kept fresh and up to date.  We make our sites easily user updatable, build them them using modern software that emphasizes the changes that have been made to the site, and always include blog and news sections.

The age of "static," 5 page websites is over.  If you want your website to be relevant, you MUST have regularly updated content.
